various remote control configurations

When trying out downloaded TV-Software like eg. ChrisTV, DScaler or the best Open Source Software available Mediaportal, I ever experienced problems with the remote control, because it was set up for the bundled TV-software. I found out, that some remotes (like the one on the picture) are controlled by a piece of software called 'lvhidsvc.exe', which runs as Windows® service. Running 'lvhidsvc' alone enables the remote control, but the .exe-file is accompanied by a set of registry-values, which control the actual behaviour. In order to control a software, the signals of the remote have to be interpreted as keyboard shortcuts which the program uses.

The values within the keymatrix (you can see a picture of the specific regedit window at the side of this text) are hex-values, which represent ASCII-signs. Red is the key number, yellow the length of the command, blue is the command and as part of it, green is finally the 'M', the whole section sending 'Ctrl-M' ('mute' in ChrisTV) for example. This values can be edited, eg. in 'regedit', and therefore the keymatrix can be fitted for any program.

At the moment, I am using an X10 remote from Medion, which is much easier to configure.
Medion X10 example (for Mediaportal)
There is still a problem with the Medion® Vista® driver and Mediaportal with my configuration. Expect some actions to take place twice.

For other TV applications I strongly recommend X10receiver.NET from battlesoft.
My examples for this software: HomeCinema/Mediacenter example configuration. Please notice, that the information provided here is not quite new. In the meantime, I am using a MCE-Remote. Nothing left to configure manually.
